Angkor Dirt Bike Tours has finalized the 2001-2002 season with an ambitious seven scheduled rallies, from the three-country, 12-day Extreme Rally Raid to the three-day, slow and scenic ride to the Bokor Hill Station. More details are on the way, but here are the dates for the seven scheduled rallies. And, as always, custom-made tours are available on request, just send an email and tell us what you're thinking.


Caltex Extreme Rally Raid
December 8th - 20th, 2001
Angkor Dirt Bike Tours would like to take this years Extreme Rally Raid from Phnom Penh to Bangkok via Siem Reap and the Angkorian Temples, returning through the border crossing at Preah Vihear in the far north of the country and then back to Phnom Penh. Raiders will be given a choice of 6, 8, 10 and 12 day itineraries, allowing a rider to either sample the delights or go 'the whole hog'.

This route, however, depends on the co-operation of the Thai government in allowing the Rally to use the border crossing at Preah Vihear. As of now, the complete details have yet to be worked out and the final route will probably not be finalized for some weeks. Tomb Raider Tour
January 5th - 14th, 2002
The Tomb Raider dirt bike tour offers riders some of the best off-road conditions Cambodia has to offer, as well as camping out in remote Angkorian-era temples left behind in the jungle. Visit the Temple where parts of the movie Tomb Raider were filmed.

Day One ­ After doing a lap of the temples depart from Siem Reap along formerly named ŒKiller Highway¹ because if its colourful bandit-crossed history. Arrive in Kompong Thom for lunch. Afternoon go to visit Angkorian Temples 50 ks outside of the town. Stay the night in Kompong Thom.
Day Two ­ Depart Kompong Thom along main logging highway toward Te Beang Meanchey. 90ks later leave the highway heading west for Preah Khan temple. Make camp in Preah Khan overnight.
Day Three ­ Rest day, explore the temple and the surrounding countryside, including local villages and the communities main pagoda. Swim in the local river.
Day Four ­ travel from Preah Khan to Te Beang Meanchey, capital of Preah Vihear province.
Day Five ­ Rest day. Explore Te Beang Meanchey and visit the silk weaving project run by Vietnam Veterans of America.
Day Six ­ Ride from Te Beang Meanchey to Phnom Penh. Lunch in Kompong Thom.

Alternative for the adventurous ­ Extra three day loop to the Angkorian Temple of Preah Vihear on the Thai border. For hard core dirt bike riders.

Day Five - instead of a rest day riders head out to the village of Chom Cassat, where they stay the night.
Day Six  - Ride to the base of the plateau on which Preah Vihear Temple sits. Walk for 3 hours to reach the temple. Stay at the temple overnight.
Day Seven ­ Return to the base of the plateau and ride back to Te Beang Meanchey.
Day Eight - Rest day. Explore Te Beang Meanchey and visit the silk weaving project run by Vietnam Veterans of America.
Day Nine ­ Ride from Te Beang Meanchey to Phnom Penh. Lunch in Kompong Thom.

Mondulkiri Rally Raid IV - Rumble In The Jungle
February 9th  - 18th, 2002
The Mondulkiri Rally Raid combines a trip to the jungles of Mondulkiri and the temples of Angkor. When the tour returns to Phnom Penh riders can stay while the rest of the tour moves on. This extra loop makes the tour into a ten day event taking in some of the best riding and site seeing Cambodia has to offer.

Day one - Depart from Phnom Penh after 1pm pre-Raid briefing, taking river road to Kampong Cham. Dinner at local restaurant. (NB: Riders also have the option of using the tar sealed road on this section.)
Day two - 8am departure for ferry crossing. Head for Memot for lunch. Arrive Memot 12.30pm. Depart for Snoul 1.30pm. Arrive in Snoul 4.30pm & check in at guesthouse.6pm fire up barbeque & have briefing for following days ride.
Day three - 8.00am departure for Sen Monorom. Arrive in Sen Monorom for lunch at midday. Check into guesthouse. Visit local waterfalls depending on weather conditions & time available.
Day four - Rest day. Visit local sights around Sen Monorom, including the towns markets & main trading posts, Hmong hill tribe villages, local waterfalls & tropical rainforest.
Day five - 6.00am departure from Sen Monorom for Memot. 11.00am arrival in Memot for lunch. 1.00pm departure for Kampong Cham. 5.30pm arrive at ferry terminal. 7.00pm check into Mekong hotel.
Day six - Depart for Phnom Penh. Lunch in Kompong Thom.

Alternative for the adventurous

Day six - Depart for Siem Reap, lunch in Kompong Thom. Arrive Siem Reap.
Days seven and eight - explore temples.
Day nine  - return to Phnom Penh.

Mighty Mekong & Hill Tribe Safari
November 17th - 25th, 2002
The Mekong & Hill Tribe Tour will leave Phnom Penh on November 17th and venture northward to remote Rattanakiri province, home of the extremely scarce, rarely-scene, fresh-water Irawadi dolphins. The Irawadi is the only fresh-water dolphin species in the world and found only in Cambodia. Further north, the capital of Rattanakiri province, Ban Lung, will serve as the base camp for exploration into the surrounding jungle area, home to many native hill tribe villages still untouched by modern society.

Day one ­ Leave Phnom Penh for Kompong Cham via the old river road.
Day Two ­ Leave Kompong Cham for the old colonial town of Kratie through the old rubber plantations.
Day Three ­ Leave Kratie for Stung Treng, visiting the Mekong River Dolphins en route.
Day Four ­ Leave Stung Treng for Banlung, provincial capital of Rattanakiri.
Day Five  - Rest day, swim in the lake, visit a hill tribe village.
Day Six ­ Drive back to Kratie.
Day Seven ­ Put the bikes on the boat for Phnom Penh. Arrive Phnom Penh.

Bokor Hill Station Safari
November 9th - 11th, 2001
January 19th - 21st, 2002
February 27th - 29th, 2002
The Bokor Hill Station Tour is the most accessible rally for people with less time and/or riding experience than that necessary for a full raid. Using bikes and a back-up vehicle to travel to the top of Bokor Plateau, riders will stay in the ranger station, and attend a party (optional) in the abandoned casino on Saturday night.

Day One - Leave Phnom Penh on the secondary road for Kampot via Duch Mea. Stay the night in Kampot.
Day Two  - Wash in the waterfalls outside Kampot before heading up the mountain to Bokor and the ruins. Dinner off the barbeque at the ranger station. Party in the abandoned casino.
Day Three - One day walk into jungle with park rangers taking in waterfalls, tiger scratching tree, elephant haunts. Or relax on the top of the plateau.
Day Four  - Drive to Phnom Penh on main road.


The 2001-2002 Season
has been finalized and begins December 8, 2001 with the annual Extreme Rally Raid. This years's rally will travel from Phnom Penh to Bangkok, taking all the roads less travelled. To keep up with the latest developments just fill out the registration form.
