For most, the mention of Cambodia conjures memories of the Vietnam War and the Khmer Rouge, war and atrocity, poverty and famine. And no doubt, Cambodia knows intimately the four horseman.

But Cambodia today is a much different country, enjoying a stable democratic government and a thriving economy for the first time in many decades. Tourism and trade have thrived in the new Cambodia, and the government of First Prime Minister Hun Sen has brought peace and prosperity to a country long forgotten in the world's consciousness.

There are many sites on the web dedicated to Cambodia. Many created and hosted in Cambodia. The following links provide a good place to find out more about the country today, the happy smiles, the endless landscapes and the heart of the Khmer people, Angkor Wat, the world's largest religious temple.

As a journalist for the Cambodia Daily and then later as the Press Agent for Sam Rainsy's 1998 political campaign, Rich Garella offers an informative expratriate view of Cambodia and offers some excellent links, photos and thoughts.

www.ala-laary.com This site contains a comprehensive archive of photos and links on Cambodia and South-East Asia. The "gallery" has many pictures from rural Cambodia that are well, well off the beaten track, taken by a Cambodian woman visiting the village she was forced to leave behind as a young girl.

Darren Whiteside is a professional photographer who has worked in Asia for many years. His photos of Cambodia tend towards "hard news", but there are also a few of daily life, from many perspectives.

As a traveller, Jan Egil visited Cambodia in 1997. She has captured some truly spectacular shots of Angkor Wat.

For a quick look at Phnom Penh nightlife, have a look at the Sharky Bar web site.

CanbyPublications offers a factual and current look at the state of Cambodia and its growing tourism industry. A good place for up-to-date travel information and facts about the country, CanbyPublication is perhaps the only comprehensive Cambodian Web site published from inside the borders of Cambodia.
